Peas Pulav

The term ‘Pulav’ sounds grand! Isn’t it? Well, you can make pulav easily with some carefully selected ingredients. Try this recipe.

Ingredients: (serves two)

Long grain rice – 2 teacups (300ml)
Frozen peas – ½ teacup (75ml)
Green chillis – 2 no, split lengthwise
Onion – 1 no, chopped
Oil – 1 tablespoon
Garam masala – 1 teaspoon
Salt - 1½ teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Coconut milk powder – 25gm sachet, 1 no

Method: Wash rice well. Soak frozen peas in water for 5 minutes, drain and keep aside. Heat oil in the pressure cooker, add chopped onions and fry till they become transparent. Add frozen peas and sauté for a minute. Add the rice and fry for 2 minutes. Mix the coconut milk powder in 1 teacup of water (150ml) and add to the cooker. Add 2 more teacups (300ml) of water, salt, green chillis and garam masala. Mix well, cover the lid and cook on medium flame. Check if the steam escapes through the nozzle, and then place the weight. After pressure builds up and the cooker starts to whistle, keep the fire on for 5 whistles. Switch off the fire. Wait for the pressure to subside and then open the lid. Mix the pulav gently with a fork. Peas pulav can be eaten with onion raitha or vegetable korma.
